The Bible speaks of the Earth as being Spherical in shape

For much of the world’s history, the notion has been held that the world is flat.

The earliest extra-biblical reference to the world's spherical shape is generally considered to have come from a Greek mathematician named Pythagoras about 500 years BC. This wasn't proved scientifically until another Greek mathematician named Erotosthenes came along about 230 BC.

It wasn't until "in 1492, Columbus sailed the ocean blue" that all notions of the world being flat were forever answered. Well what does the Bible have to say about the shape of the earth?

"It is He (God) who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers, who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them out like a tent to dwell in." Isaiah 40: 22

The word translated "circle" here comes from the Hebrew word "KHUG", which literally translated, means "sphere" or "ball". It is used in ancient Hebrew literature to describe the ball that a child plays with. Isaiah writes this some hundreds of years before the Greek mathematicians even thought of such a thing.
