The Bible speaks of an Expanding Universe

Did you know that science has now concluded that space is racing (expanding) in every direction at a pace of roughly 216,000 km/hr (or about 134,000 miles/hr)?

This has been verified as a result of experiments done by both the Hubble Telescope (this rate of expansion of the universe is referred to as the Hubble Constant) and the Chandra X-Ray Observatory. Both devices were launched by NASA Space Shuttles (the former in 1990 and the latter in 1999).

"It is He (God) who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers, Who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them out like a tent to dwell in." Isaiah 40: 22

Isaiah speaks of God's stretching forth the heavens in the verse above and also in chapter 42 and verse 5. It's interesting that a number of the verses that speak of God stretching forth the heavens (i.e., speak of God's expansion of the universe), do so in the present tense - which is exactly what we see today, the universe continues to expand!

"Bless the Lord, O my soul! O Lord my God, You are very great: You are clothed with honor and majesty, who cover Yourself with light as with a garment, who stretch out the heavens like a curtain." Psalm 104: 1 - 2

The author of this Psalm is unknown, but probably is a contemporary of David's and certainly wrote over 1000 years BC.
