The Bible speaks of an Earth that hangs on nothing
The fact of a free floating earth was apparently foreign to most ancient cultures. In a world where all objects fall rapidly to their destruction, such a suggestion must have been terrifying. However, in the book of Job, commonly believed to be the oldest book in the Bible, we find an astonishing piece of scientific foreknowledge. While speaking of the incredible power of God, Job states of the earth."
Cosmology Rediscovered
"He stretches out the north over empty space; He hangs the earth on nothing. He binds up the water in His thick clouds, yet the clouds are not broken under it. He covers the face of His throne, and spreads His cloud over it. He drew a circular horizon on the face of the waters, at the boundary of light and darkness." Job 26: 7 - 10

What does the Bible say the earth hangs on? Nothing!
The same passage again speaks of God's stretching-forth empty space (see our section on the 'Expanding Universe').
It also reiterates the thought that the earth is round or spherical (His drawing the circular horizon for the earth's waters).
